The small town of Uis can be found in Damaraland, one of Namibia's picturesque desert regions. The name literally means a spring of water, and was adopted because of the town being built where there was such a spring. The spring, however, was not enough to provide water for the growing town and its tin mine. Only when a water pipeline was constructed from the Omaruru River in the 1960s did the town and mine really start to develop.
Uis sits under the shadow of Namibia's highest mountain, the Brandberg, which is where you will find the world famous rock painting of The White Lady, thought to be as much as 20000 years old. Mining in Uis has almost petered out, and the town relies on passing trade to keep it going. One thing that Uis has become well known for are its its excellent examples of rocks and crystals. These are collected by the locals and sold to tourists.

Here are five things to see or do in and around Uis:
1. Brandberg Mountain:
Description: Brandberg Mountain is the highest mountain in Namibia, standing at 2,573 meters. It's famous for the "White Lady" rock painting and numerous other ancient San rock art sites.
Activities: Hiking, rock art viewing, and exploring the diverse flora and fauna of the area.
2. Twyfelfontein:
Description: A UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its extensive collection of ancient rock engravings and paintings.

Terms & Conditions
- The property (you) must offer the 15% saving to all verified members
- Verification is done automatically at the time of an enquiry. It is at the property’s discretion whether to offer the saving for a telephonic enquiry. (As you have no means to verify the membership number, it is advisable to get them to do a formal enquiry so they can be verified).
- If the property is currently running a "Special" greater than 15% then the "Special" price will apply. (No further savings needs to be offered). EXCEPT in the case where the "Special" is lower than 15%. In that case the 15% will apply.
Example: A property offering a 10% discount, must offer an additional 5% discount to valid members - so they get a total 15% saving. - The property must offer valid members the saving all year round. (Properties that pick and chose in which seasons to participate run the risk of being removed from the programme completely. Allowing selective participation defeats the integrity of this initiative).
- The property must not inflate the price before the 15% is applied. Prices displayed should be the rack rate. (The official or advertised price of a room).
- The property must honour any bookings made while the property was participating as a $elect Stays property.
- The property must honour the agreement and the spirit in which the initiative is designed to benefit local tourism.
